Vrygrond : These children come from disadvantaged backgrounds, living in Vrygrond as SA citizens or refugees. Most start school without any letter or sound (phonics) recognition, some unable to hold a pencil, many have no books in their homes or games to develop early learning patterns in the brain. There is an incredibly successful volunteer remedial program at Capricorn School which helps these children on a weekly basis to catch up to basic educational levels. Some of us in CBC are helping out on a weekly basis to make a difference in these children's lives - the results have been phenomenal.

Emergency Services Chaplain : An often forgotten and taken for granted sector of the community is the personnel that make up the various sectors of the vitally necessary Emergency Services. These men and women, in the course of their duties, face trauma and stress on a daily basis. Who do they turn to in times of personal need? On becoming aware of this need, Duncan, our pastor, undertook the necessary training to become an Emergency Services Chaplain to assist in some measure by being available to the Fire Brigade at Lakeside (as well as Fish Hoek and Simonstown until such time as they have their own Emergency Service Chaplains). His involvement includes trauma counselling and pastoral care to Fire Department personnel and their families as well as to members of the public who need assistance in case of emergencies.
